Blog Critique

Michelle's Comments for My blog:

My Comments for Michelle's Blog :
1. Your posts on “Commercials in the News” and “The Conflict of Appearance in Women through Commercials” are a very strong and analytical and provide very insightful and useful information in viewing commercials and advertisements.
2. A good way to use these post for your final blog post would be to make a timeline on how images of women (and/or men) have changed since commercials were first aired to today’s average commercial. You could also use the video blogging as an extra oomph to your final blog assignment.
3. It is obviously evident that you feel strongly about what you write about and I can see how your blog as evolve from your first “Links about my Blog” to “Commercials in the News” and can also be a great idea for your final blog presentation.
4. I think that your posts make strong critical arguments on how gender is depicted in your everyday commercial and how ignorant people are to the stereotypes that are unconsciously engraved in these commercials. I also appreciate how the links and sources you use help the reader become more identified to the argument you are making.
5. I thought it was great how you observed and analyze the Snickers Commercial. Your argument really made me angry in the sense that I wanted to send the company a letter ...even though they probably stopped airing the commercial by now. J
Hope this helped!!

Alex,
Your analtical work used to describe your collage was very impressive. You accurately pointed out the norms and ideals that are shown in the images as well as described the messages that they sent very well.
Your analytical strength of analyzing will be a great tool for your final blog post and presentation by discussing the ideals and messages that advertisements send to its viewers.

Your blog has been consistently related to your topic throughout the semester. All of your posts have been relevant to the topic of gender and advertisements.
You seem very interested in your topic of advertisements as you mentioned in your post titled, "Why Gender In Ads? What My Blog is Really About..." All of your posts mention advertisements that seem to interest you as well.

All of your blog posts focused on gender and gender representation as your primary form of analysis. When analyzing the advertisements you may want to include more detail about what the ads say about norms and ideals in society.
Many of your posts make good analytical arguements regarding gender and advertisements. For posts such as the gender and news post you may want to include a more of an analysis about the female stereotypes in the ad and what caused them to make the news.

The sources that you cited in your posts were very relevant to the content of your posts and successfully helped to prove the arguements that you were making.
Some of the quotes that you used were not from the course readings but still related to the topic well. The quotes from the course readings help show a variation in the topics of your posts.

The quotes that you used in your posts were both clear and concise. They helped support your arguement and could be differentiated from your own ideas in the posts.

I thought it was great when you used the news article to relate to your topic and incorporated good quotes in your post titled, "Why Gender In Ads? What My Blog is Really About..."

I found it confusing when you didn't completely explain the stereotypes presented in the advertisements of your news article.

You're really good at finding gender stereotypes and ideals presented within advertisements as well as presenting them in explanations such as that of the collage.

I wish you could focus more on providing a more detailed analysis for the advertisements and their stereotypes such as in that of the news blog post.
